REDMOND, Wash. — March 11, 2010 — Microsoft Corp. is offering midsize businesses looking to benefit from advanced functionality, easy interoperability with other line-of-business applications, and strong business intelligence reporting options a new incentive to switch from NetSuite to Microsoft Dynamics ERP. Companies in the U.S. can receive a credit of up to $850 for every NetSuite user that switches to either Microsoft Dynamics GP, Microsoft Dynamics NAV or Microsoft Dynamics SL. The new promotion is available until June 25, 2010. Businesses interested in learning more about the benefits and capabilities of Microsoft Dynamics ERP solutions can attend a free educational Web seminar on March 30 by registering at https://www.eventbuilder.com/event_desc.asp?z=g9q82p&p_event=2d5b0f03. They can also visit http://www.microsoft.com/dynamics/rightstep.

Companies Making the Move

Many organizations wanting greater efficiencies and an improved ability to manage change are looking to Microsoft Dynamics ERP solutions. Archipelago Learning, a leading subscription-based online education company, and Winshuttle Inc., the leading provider of Microsoft Excel-based business process improvement solutions for SAP users, recently upgraded to Microsoft Dynamics ERP from NetSuite. With Microsoft Dynamics ERP, Winshuttle now has the multicurrency management it needs, while Archipelago Learning has virtually eliminated time spent on basic integration issues.

“The interoperability with Microsoft SQL Server means the ease of moving data between our data warehouses is just fantastic. In the past, I’d have to extract data from NetSuite, deal with throttling limitations, and eventually get my work done days later,” said Ray Lowrey, executive vice president and chief technology officer, Archipelago Learning. “With Microsoft Dynamics GP, I don’t have to be on the phone with software support technicians, escalating problems to try to get them resolved, because our experience is that Microsoft Dynamics GP simply runs without any problems.”

Choice of Deployment

Microsoft understands that as organizations change, customers want the option to have their solution delivered by partners either on-premise or via on-demand and subscription-based hosting models. According to Forrester Research Inc., “SaaS alone is constraining as an enterprise ERP delivery model, due to the wide variations in customer requirements.1”

“To assume that a single deployment model for ERP will work for every business is unrealistic,” said Crispin Read, general manager of Microsoft Dynamics ERP. “By having a choice of owning an on-premise solution, subscribing to a hosted solution or combining the two at any point and time, companies have the option to make wise decisions that satisfy their specific business requirements.”

Microsoft Dynamics ERP customers can also choose to deploy a collection of online services to help them quickly increase their business capabilities, from the more than 150 Microsoft Dynamics partners across the globe delivering subscription-based Microsoft Dynamics ERP solutions. Connect Service and Payment Services are available now. Sites Service and Commerce Service are expected to be available in the first half of 2010.

“The hosting of Microsoft Dynamics ERP solutions is solid, proven and flexible,” said Olivier Meynier, director of SaaSplaza USA. “The real differentiator compared to NetSuite is the freedom of choice: We can incorporate Microsoft Dynamics with other solutions under one umbrella, or customize it with a large selection of vertical solutions and add-ons. This, coupled with our ability to offer state-of-the-art SAS70 II compliant hosting services, makes every SaaS Dynamics ERP implementation a sound business case for our customers.”

Microsoft Dynamics solutions are sold through an extensive network of more than 10,000 Microsoft Dynamics business partners. These partners have the advantage of extensive resources such as training, marketing, and field and sales engagement opportunities to help deliver customer satisfaction.

“This new offer enables our partners to provide customers with more options and is one of many investments we make in sales support,” said Doug Kennedy, vice president of Microsoft Dynamics Partners. “To deliver a choice of options, Microsoft Dynamics ERP partners who offer on-premise deployments can partner with hosting providers to provide the best level of technical expertise and skills for their customers and prospects.”

About Microsoft Dynamics

Microsoft Dynamics is a line of easy-to-use, integrated and adaptable ERP and CRM applications that enable business decision-makers to quickly respond to market shifts, take advantage of new trends, increase their competitive edge and drive business success. Microsoft Dynamics solutions are delivered through a world-class network of reselling partners that provides specialized services and additional innovation to help customers excel in their industries.

Last June, General Motors, an American industry icon, filed for bankruptcy. What went wrong? Though analysts spoke of a variety of issues - very high labor costs, rising competition from Toyota and Honda, a frightening climb in fuel prices, credit freeze, the caving in of the American economy, drop in sales caused by lack of purchasing power among Americans due to the downturn–we cannot forget the time-tested Darwin theory on adaptation, ‘The Survival of the Fittest’.

General Motors didn’t change much with time. GM still made large cars, when Japanese competitors focused on midsize ones to suit more of customer’s budgets. Within a month of going bankrupt, General Motors announced an aggressive push into the small car arena.

ERP solutions available today are undergoing a similar metamorphosis. The ERP industry has metamorphosed and evolved from large monolithic solutions to nimble quick implementation offerings. Microsoft Dynamics NAV (or Navision) particularly swam this change tide and became the solution of choice for SMBs across the world. NAV aligned well with the Microsoft partner story on promoting entrepreneurship and innovation and helped partners in building their own verticals and building strong profitable business models. What does the future hold for NAV customers?

Cloud computing, Web 2.0, Bridging external stakeholders like customers and suppliers, engaging internal user experiences, simpler licensing and pricing models and support options would indicate the next expectations from ERP vendors including NAV.

Microsoft has merged its Windows Server and Windows Azure into a new division dubbed the Server & Cloud Division (SCD).

In a much anticipated move, Microsoft has created the Server & Cloud Division (SCD) within the Server & Tools Business (STB) that merges the Windows Azure and the Windows Server & Solutions groups. The move shows that Azure isn’t just an advanced development project for the software giant, and the company is ready to make money from it. Microsoft says its strategy is to create “a single organization focused on delivering solutions for customers that span on-premises data centers and the cloud.” Windows Server, Windows Azure, SQL Server, SQL Azure, Visual Studio, and System Center are all part of this strategy that includes both on-premises and cloud solutions. Microsoft notes it is the only company in the industry that can offer its customers the choice to tap into a server platform, a cloud platform, or both. The move this week comprises of the following three changes:

-The Windows Azure Development team will move from under Chief Software Architect Ray Ozzie (this is the part that really shows Azure has graduated from an advanced development project) to the Server & Tools Business, led by Bob Muglia, president of the Server and Tools Division. Senior Vice President Amitabh Srivastava will lead the newly formed SCD, reporting to Muglia.

-The Windows Server and Solutions group, led by Corporate Vice President Bill Laing, will join the Windows Azure team to form the Server & Cloud Division. Laing will continue his role as a key member of the STB leadership team but will report to Amitabh and work with him to continue the bilateral sharing of technology between Windows Server and Windows Azure, which has been a key design goal of Microsoft’s software and services strategy.

-The Windows Azure Business and Marketing team will continue to be led by Doug Hauger. Doug will join the Server and Tools Marketing Group, led by Corporate Vice President Robert Wahbe, reporting to Corporate Vice President Bob Kelly, who is also responsible for Windows Server, System Center, and Forefront.

The reorganization has no impact on the actual product and services, at least not immediately. At PDC09, Microsoft announced that the Azure platform will have its first paying customers in February 2010, marking the company’s entry into the commercial cloud computing market. In July 2009, the company laid out the pricing for Windows Azure, SQL Azure, Azure, and .NET Services.

In addition to the other new features added to Bing on Dec. 2, Microsoft now offers the Bing Bar for Firefox and Internet Explorer.

The downloadable application grafts a tool bar to your Web browser, allowing one-click access to various Bing features such as Shopping, Video, Web Search and Maps, as well as instant access to news, stocks, weather and Hotmail.

The Bing Bar also includes features such as Search Assist, which displays suggested searches when the user begins to type a term into the search bar, and Browse Plus, which alerts the user to breaking news in specific categories. Microsoft likely hopes that Bing Bar will help its search engine gain traction as it seeks to compete with Google in the search engine space.

Microsoft’s Big Easy Offer allows Microsoft Dynamics CRM software prospective buyers, who make a qualifying purchase on the popular Open Value Annuity license program; to earn approximately a 29% rebate or potentially thousands of dollars back in the form of software and services.

The subsidy from Microsoft gives organizations the funding they need to implement a comprehensive solution now, rather than buying solution components separately over an extended period of time. This is a limited-time offer which runs until January2, 2009. The offer can be reviewed at www.DynamicsExchange.com with a video presentation, written details, and a rebate calculator online and products can be ordered online, or ask questions online 24/5.

These subsidies are substantial and when a client purchases from more than one product group they increase their subsidy funds dramatically. This is an opportunity to get typical Dynamics CRM implementation training and customization services paid in part, if not whole, by Microsoft. This makes the difference between the Basic CRM and custom reports, functionality, and workflow that make the real difference for prospective buyers of Dynamics CRM at DynamicsExchange.com

The Big Easy Offer 3.0 makes available a host of popular Microsoft solutions such as 2007 Microsoft Office System, Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Office Communications Server, and new solutions like Microsoft System Center Essentials.

DynamicsExchange.com is offering solid contribution to the process of succeeding in the Microsoft Dynamics CRM platform by applying best value and community ideas managed in innovative ways. Contributing and accessing anything on DynamicsExchange is free.

About DynamicsExchange.com:
DynamicsExchange.com offers a single-access point to the resources required to succeed on the Microsoft Dynamics CRM xRM platform by applying state-of-the-art technology and community access in innovative ways for prospects and users.

When working with one of my clients that had “corrupted” his customer setting, we came across a solution that allowed him to avoid having to reset (delete) the “zup” file and lose all of his prior setup user preferences, which he had been developing over the past few months.

What happened was that he had put a filter on a form that made it impossible to reopen the form. Since the “zup” file gets updated when you close your NAVISION client, the solution was to keep the current (corrupted) NAV client open and then open a new NAV client, that opens with the prior user settings (since the zup file had not been updated yet).

The next step is to close the “corrupted” client (which will update your zup file), and right after that you close the second NAV client (the good one).

When you do that it will ask you “if you want to SAVE the zup file”. You should answer “YES” to that question, because then you will update the “zup” file with the good setting and override the bad setting previously saved when you closed the first client.

Hope this serves useful if you get into the same type of problem.

Via the Microsoft Partner Network, the successor of the Microsoft Partner Program, Redmond is offering its partners a great deal for their clients: 20 percent off Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 purchases plus an upgrade to Microsoft Office 2010 when it launches in June 2010.

In typical Microsoft fashion, the offer has a mouthful of a name: Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 No Better Time Promotion. Don’t let that throw you off, though: a 20 percent discount right now and a free copy to the latest version is a great deal for businesses.
